Design Questions:
When approaching the designs of the cards, three questions were asked: How do I make the characters stand out? What elements can make the designs more elegant? How do I make each card feel cohesive as a set?
Answers:
To make the characters the primary focus, the background was made to be the complimentary color to the primary color of the character, as well as posing the character is such as way as they break through the borders.
To achieve the elegance of I wanted, I chose to incorporate Victorian filigree to bring some notion to the era and feeling of the world into the cards.
The make the set feel cohesive, I kept the style consistent throughout, using a sharp light source and Victorian and Steampunk inspired imagery to create a sense of what life looks like within this world.
